Conan the Barbarian – Movie Review

Conan the Barbarian – Movie Review

'Conan the Barbarian,' starring Jason Momoa and Rachel Nicholas is a 3D movie shot in Bulgaria. It is the story of Conan, a poor barbarian boy, who watches his parents die and learns to be the most barbaric of all barbarians. The movie is definitely not for the weak hearts are it has a lot of violence in it. Well that's what you get when it comes from German-born director Marcus Nispel responsible for making the 2003 remake of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 2009's 'Friday the 13th.' But, there are few childish romantic moments too in it.
The movie is set in the fictional Hyborian Age, where monsters and sorcery were big threats and people were not too civilized. Not attempting to replicate the Schwarzenegger version with more humour and less violence, the new movie shows only a troubled ancient world of warring tribes, vestal virgins, lethal swords, dungeons, torture chambers and Machiavellian monsters.
Although cinematographically strong, the 113 minutes movie is beastly, brutal and a mess of English and America accents.
